I knew I saw a pattern! The recent US National Team photo-op training session with the Navy SEALs was no mere field-trip, but part of a recruiting campaign targeting swimmers and water polo players.

The US Navy is trying to bolster their active SEAL numbers from 1,800 to 2,500 by the year 2012. However, they have to train and pass more SEAL recruits without lowering their standards. The solution? Targeting civilian athletes who are already up to par with the training pre-requisits.

That explains some of the hype in the swimming community of Navy SEAL training.
