After the latest round of records and times wiped away by a short pool, I couldn't help but ask WHY?? Last summer, Spin Beck wuzrobbed of a WR (which she probably would have had even if the pool was of lengeth) in the 50m breastsroke because the adjustable bulkheads were not in place, so the pool was an inch or so short of 50m. And now, an NCAA record in the 50yd freestyle was nullified because of the same problem. So the question is WHY?? Is it a malfunction or is the pool designed this way? Why was nothing done… more »

Michael Phelps ... Enough Said

There's not much more that can be said about Michael Phelps' performances in Beijing. 8 gold medals. 7 world records. Certainly a historic feat. Since then, people have been saying things like "Greatest Olympian of All Time" and "World's Best Athlete" I have a hard time admitting these bold assertions, partly because I don't know about all of the other Olympians that have competed or all of the other athletes of the world. I'm sure that most people don't either, but for me, it's just hard to make those claims. For example, he is the "greatest Olympian" statistically by gold… more »

The Olympics are officially over

So now that the Beijing Olympics are officially over, we can look back at all of the action that happened in the pool. It certainly lived up to all of the hype, and with 20 world records set, is the fastest meet in the world. Morning finals provided little disruption to the excitement of the competition, and it pays no use to wonder what could have been accomplished if there were evening finals. It seems as though everything went off without a hiccup and the Chinese hosted everything wonderfully (from what I could see through my television anyways).Something that really… more »

Wow. What a week the swimming competition in Beijing was. With so much excitement, swimming had its eight days of fame and will most likely be thrust back into obscurity until 2012. Sure there will be the occasional article in a national newspaper about a world record, gold medal, or some controversy surrounding Amanda Beard. ANYWAYS, I guess what I'm trying to say is that swimming is awesome, the Olympics were amazing, and swimmers are one of a kind.
