Cool Stuff

Those who have trained with me or been coached by me know I am a big fan of swimming toys. I probably spend way too much money on swimming stuff, but I dig it. After 20 years of competitive swimming, I need to do things to keep it interesting. When I get stuff, I will try to post a review of the product on here. I have a back log of stuff I can review, however, if there are things you want reviewed--let me know!

First up, my most recent acquisition, a swim MP3 player. I have held off buying these because there is just no way something as large as the first generation would be practical for a competitive swimmer. They were not practical because they were too big and would just get in the way. As with all technology, it has gotten smaller and cheaper. I got the Nu Technology Dolphin 1 GB Waterproof MP3 player from Swimoutlet.com (it retails there for around $90). I got this player because it looked the smallest and had "normal" headphones. Loading music onto it was a snap. The buttons are small, but easy enough to use. 1GB is not up to non-waterproof storage, but it is more than sufficient for a 2 hour workout. I swam with it for the first time today and it was awesome. For the first time it 20 years, I have not been trapped in a water world of sensory deprivation. I had music! Other than a small tug on my goggle straps when I pushed off the walls, I did not notice the player on my goggles.

While I have not tried others, I would highly recommend the Nu Dolphin as it met all my needs and made my morning workout much easier. Feel free to post your experiences with this player or other ones. And let me know what else you are interested in!

Talk to you all later,

B

Chris,
I've had 3 different waterproof headphones. They all end up sounding muffled. Manual says you can seal them in your ear but seems like too much trouble. Anything new on your face "feels different" but after a few yards you forget them. The only time I notice them is sometimes when going through the waves they bounce a little off the cheekbone. I probably don't do turns as quickly as you though.

Denise,

Have you tried the waterproof headphones? I thought they were pretty good. However, I must confess I have not tried the bone conduction. I just couldn't bring myself to get a Swimp3 because of how it sits on the face. Have you had issues with that?

I too love swim toys. For tunes in the pool and open water I have yet to find something that beats my Swimp3. Its bone conduction technology beats any headphone any day.

Yes, you certainly do have a lot of swim toys, a humungous bag full of them.
