Our best laid plans ...
Well, I had quite an adventure making it to Omaha.? I guess the lesson I learned is that no matter how much you prepare there is always the potential that life can prevent you from acheiving what you think you want. And, more importantly, there are more important things in life then swimming fast, like family, health, and being a good person.
I won't trouble you all with all the details, but here is the quick summary.? I was supposed to fly out of O'Hare (in Chicago), but my flight was cancelled and all the other flights to Omaha were booked.? I met another swimmer named Jamie Barone in line.? We were both in the same situation and I offered to drive the 7 hours to Omaha so we would get there?before Friday.? As we were leaving, we picked up the Arch-Bishop of Ottawa (no joking), who also needed to go to Omaha.? We only got about 2 hours before?I needed to stop for gas.? When we stopped,?I unfortunately, got into a car accident that totaled my car (we were stopped and were hit by a pick up truck going really fast).? Fortunately, no one was seriously hurt, only whip-lash type stuff.
Needless to say, I was not really feeling like swimming after the accident but everyone convinced me to go anyway.? After alot of traveling, I did get there on Friday.? I was happy enough with my time in the 100 Breast, all things considered, I went a 1:08.29.? Although, it was not what I wanted to go.? I was more happy that Jamie swam some awesome races and everyone involved in the accident was doing fine.?
So no Olympic Trials for me.? But, I will stay involved with this sport for the rest of my life because it is just part of who I am.? Who knows maybe 2012 ...
Stay safe and swim fast,
B
