6 Beat Kick

After a recent swim meet, I realized none of my kicks really kick well (or rotate well for that matter). So, I'm starting to incorporate 6 beat kick into the warm up and warm up sets to get them a.) used to kicking more and b.)used to being on their sides. So far, I think it's going ok. They still need to rotate a little bit more, but hopefully this will get them rotating better and kicking more. If anyone has any other suggestions, I'm definitely open to them and eager to hear what they have to say. more »

Age Group Swimmers and a Snorkel

I started practices on Saturdays for some of my more dedicated kids, calling it the Elite Group practice. I required all of them to purchase swimmer's snorkels so that they could concentrate on other aspects of their strokes (like rotating properly, since none of them do that very well). My kids are in middle school, so 11-14 year olds. So, the first set on Saturday is the snorkel set. Lots of 25s to start with to get them to learn to breathe through it.
