Swimmers are up for 9 ESPY's in 2009! Phelps leads the way with 5 nominations, including "Best Moment," as part of the US 4x100 Free Relay Team.

Here's the nominee list: http://www.chiff.com/recreation/sports/espy-awards.htm#espy
Here's where you can vote: http://espn.go.com/espy2009/index.html

i think coughlin actually has a good chance in the one considering that votes for gymnastics will be split between nastia liukin and shawn johnson. i do have to admit it was hard to vote for anyone other than swimmers in the categories which swimmers were represented. i think swimmers will walk away with more espys than people may think.

I found the voting page here: http://promo.espn.go.com/espn/specialsection/espys2009/#/home/
And you have to login to ESPN.com to vote

If I register does that mean I'm gonna get email updates about baseball? Ugh I hope not...

Really, none of the individual swimmers (Rice, Vollmer, Coughlin) have a shot in their categories. Rice won't win over Yelena Isinbayeva and Lorena Ochoa. Vollmer won't beat Courtney Kupets or Maya Moore. And Coughlin, with two nods, can't beat Nastia Liukin, Shawn Johnson, Serena Williams, Candace Parker... at least swimmers were nominated.

Stephanie Rice is nominated for Best Female International Athlete. I think she's nominated with Dinara Safina and that Russian pole vaulter (can't remember her name). Rice is pictured with a cap and black suit.

ESPN screwed up and put up a pic of Lacey Nymeyer instead of Dana Vollmer for her nomination, so when voting, don't automatically look for a Vollmer pic. I'm sending constant hate mail until a correct image of Dana is put up!

After seeing how many people went to Quebec to see Michael swim last weekend, I think he may have a chance of getting at least one award, if not more.

REALLY?   June 25, 2009 at 7:56pm
"Jimmie Johnson Auto Racing" OH YEA THAT REALLY IS IN THE SAME LEAGUE WITH PHELPS AND KOBE. That really pisses me off when people try to compare things like that. First of all Auto racing is not a sport at all and second the only sport comparable to swimming is running. period.

i voted for phelps, even though hes by far my least favorite pro swimmer... i voted for swimming as a sport, not for phelps as a person... although i was VERY torn on whether to vote for natalie coughlin or nastia liuken for favorite female athlete
