Prior to 2007, Ryan Lochte was the best swimmer that had never won a gold medal at a major international long course meet. All that changed when he defeated Aaron Piersol and captured the world record in the 200 backstroke at the 2007 World Championships. Lochte is a versatile swimmer who can be competitive at any stroke and any distance. He is coached by Gregg Troy and swims for Daytona.
