The 2008 Olympic Trials in Omaha is likely to be the fastest, most highly attended meet in world history. Join us every night at 6 pm for a live show. The show will feature interviews with coaches and athletes as well as a prediction contest from blueseventy.
Thank you Hawaiian Swimmer for pointing out Hayley McGregory's gold necklace. I couldn't believe it. Of course, I don't understand why swimmers shave their bodies and confide so much in a suit if they're going to allow a ton of hair to stick out of their cap.
11) John Naber is a douchebag
12) If you set your alarm to the sounds of another guy screaming, I am glad you are not representing the US.
13) Dont sprint prelims of a 1500.
Things I Learned from the '08 US Olympic Swimming Trials
1) Don't scratch the 200 free to focus on the 100 backstroke.
2) Larsen Jensen will bite your head off if you ask if he felt like an underdog.
3) If you've finished in 3rd place four times, maybe you shouldn't wear a gold necklace while you swim.
4) According to Rowdy, "Backstroke starts are like upside down dives!"
5) Gary Hall Jr. is the Godfather of Swimming!
6) Even though Kitajima may win the 200 breast, we still beat Japan's Hot Dog Eatting Champion!
7) You do not need to have a huge ripped body to win the men's 50 free.
8) 41 year olds can swim fast even though they can't see the wall or hear the beep.
9) If you win an event and expected to break the world record you should stick your tongue out and make faces.
10) Playboy Models & Go-Daddy Girls can make the Olympic team.
i dont agree with rowdy gaines' comments on dara torres as being "the fastest 50 freestyler in the world!!" Libby Lenton has the world record and is the only woman to have gone 23. another example of rowdy not thinking before he speaks.
i thought it was funny when one of the people talking (forgot which one it was) was talking about dara torres' 100 free..they replayed her dive and he said "usually rection time DECAYS with age...!"
if you want kirks perspective on her race, go to her blog at world championship sports network. it really is heartbreaking.. i hope she continues to swim, as she has been inspirational to many.
also does anyone know where to get some of the videos from naber's awful questions to the swimmers. i want to see the reactions from the swimmers. a few examples:
- to natalie coughlin: "how does it feel to get beaten by a 41 year old"
- to christine magnuson: "are you happy natalie coughlin scratched"
- to elizabeth biesel: ""What was it like being so far behind a world-record holder and still making the Olympic Team?"
and another great one to cap off this post
Nabor - "Remember folks, in the finals, don't just focus on the winner of the event. If you want to see true disappointment, watch the 3rd place finisher."
my vote is garrett does the interveiws from now on!
Jonathan, stacks of swimmers qualified for the olympics in a blueseventy suit at the World Open Water Championships were blueseventy out numbered every other brand by more than 3 to one. Also a dutch dude with the initials PVH qualified at the dutch national champs swimming his fastest times in 6 years. Roque on though!
Hi i was just wondering where i can get race videos from. I live in England so dont get to watch the trials. Ive tried you tube but thre are just odd races. The NBC website doesnt work either . Any help would be apreciated thanx
Gaines seems to talk about three things:
1) Michael Phelp's kick off the turns.
2) The ablility of the winner to put their hand on the wall first.
3) And how tight some people's dives are.
wow.......
Some of my favorite quotes:
"Phelps doesn't usually do a kickout like that until the last turn..."
"Look at how tight Brendan Hansen's dive is..." (Brendan's legs were noticeably apart)
"Look at how tight Hansen's streamline is..." (Brendan's hands were apart when streamlining.)
"As we mentioned before... Klete Keller faded." (400 free final)
agreed on the rowdy. But still, some of the things he says are so stupid, theyre hilarious! Example, during the womens 100 back final, he said that Hoelzer was able finish second because the other swimmers "overswam" their first 100. Huh? How is that possible????
I agree with Jon Lau... Rowdy needs to go. He's HORRIBLE. Swimming only gets national attention every four years and there is a joker like Rowdy doing the commentary... Can't NBC/USA Swimming find someone better--it really couldn't be too hard. Rowdy always puts his foot in his mouth (example: Sunday night Rowdy said "There is no way Phelp's will break his 400 IM record tonight.")
I enjoy Dan Hicks even though he does not have a a background in the sport. Please, NBC, find someone new...
omg! my heart aches for those veterans who got edged again after trying to make the team so many times. Randall Bal, Davis Tarwater, Haleigh McGregory, Rebecca Soni (by .01).
Also, is anyone else getting annoyed by Rowdy Gaines's dumbed down commentary. We need someone else to be MC. Maybe Garrett.....???
anyone know where u can watch all the heats or find a live fed of the prelims cause one of my friends made it but he definitly wont be making the semis or finals
yeah i agree with Johnathon Jordan get a bunch of the UF swimmers they are kickass like uhh Caroline and Clark Burckle Tobias Work all the people that are making finals especially Lochte they are real talented id like to hear some of their stuff
Did anyone else have an issue with John Nabor's question to Christine Magnuson about Natalie after the awards cermony? I felt she did a great job handling the question; but someone needs to call John on the carpet for such a slap in the face question.
I would enjoy an interview with some coaches on what the need to do when a swimmer has a bad swim or something at the biggest qualification meet every 4 years...
