The 2008 Olympic Trials in Omaha is likely to be the fastest, most highly attended meet in world history. Join us every night at 6 pm for a live show. The show will feature interviews with coaches and athletes as well as a prediction contest from blueseventy.
Thank you Hawaiian Swimmer for pointing out Hayley McGregory's gold necklace. I couldn't believe it. Of course, I don't understand why swimmers shave their bodies and confide so much in a suit if they're going to allow a ton of hair to stick out of their cap.
11) John Naber is a douchebag
12) If you set your alarm to the sounds of another guy screaming, I am glad you are not representing the US.
13) Dont sprint prelims of a 1500.
Things I Learned from the '08 US Olympic Swimming Trials
1) Don't scratch the 200 free to focus on the 100 backstroke.
2) Larsen Jensen will bite your head off if you ask if he felt like an underdog.
3) If you've finished in 3rd place four times, maybe you shouldn't wear a gold necklace while you swim.
4) According to Rowdy, "Backstroke starts are like upside down dives!"
5) Gary Hall Jr. is the Godfather of Swimming!
6) Even though Kitajima may win the 200 breast, we still beat Japan's Hot Dog Eatting Champion!
7) You do not need to have a huge ripped body to win the men's 50 free.
8) 41 year olds can swim fast even though they can't see the wall or hear the beep.
9) If you win an event and expected to break the world record you should stick your tongue out and make faces.
10) Playboy Models & Go-Daddy Girls can make the Olympic team.
i dont agree with rowdy gaines' comments on dara torres as being "the fastest 50 freestyler in the world!!" Libby Lenton has the world record and is the only woman to have gone 23. another example of rowdy not thinking before he speaks.
i thought it was funny when one of the people talking (forgot which one it was) was talking about dara torres' 100 free..they replayed her dive and he said "usually rection time DECAYS with age...!"
if you want kirks perspective on her race, go to her blog at world championship sports network. it really is heartbreaking.. i hope she continues to swim, as she has been inspirational to many.
also does anyone know where to get some of the videos from naber's awful questions to the swimmers. i want to see the reactions from the swimmers. a few examples:
- to natalie coughlin: "how does it feel to get beaten by a 41 year old"
- to christine magnuson: "are you happy natalie coughlin scratched"
- to elizabeth biesel: ""What was it like being so far behind a world-record holder and still making the Olympic Team?"
and another great one to cap off this post
Nabor - "Remember folks, in the finals, don't just focus on the winner of the event. If you want to see true disappointment, watch the 3rd place finisher."
my vote is garrett does the interveiws from now on!
