There are only 16 spots in each event so making the Texas State High School Championships is an accomplishment in and of itself. This is the 2009 UIL Texas State 5A Swimming and Diving Championships.
Meet & Contact Information
So many story lines here at The 2009 UIL Texas High School Swimming and Diving Championships.
On the boy's side, we have Matt Thompson coming off an impressive Regional meet, where he set the national high school record in the 200 IM. The record was later broken by Nick D'Innocenzo from Massachusetts. You can be sure Matt will be looking to reclaim this national record this weekend in Austin. Thompson is also the favorite in the 100 backstroke as the Stanford-bound senior is the top seed by over 2 seconds at a 47.48. The 200 freestyle should be a great race this year as the three top seeds all qualified under 1:40.00, led by junior Paul Leonhardt from Plano. Dax Hill, who will be coming to swim for the Longhorns next fall, will be someone to keep an eye on in this event. Hill is also the the second fastest qualifier in the 100 breaststroke, an off-event for the senior from Round Rock, only 4 one-hundredths behind the top-seed Karson Applin from Eisenhower. Jonny Edwards and Gray Umbach are two other names to watch out for. Both qualified in the top 5 in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke.
On the girl's side, there should be a number of fantastic races. Junior Samantha Tucker from Westlake is the top seed in both the 100 and 200 freestyle, as she looks to be the favorite heading into the state meet this weekend. Sophomore Erin Foster from The Woodlands had a breakout meet a couple weeks ago at the Regional meet, as she will look to carry that momentum into her 500 freestyle, where she is the top seed at 4:46.57, over 5 seconds ahead of the second fastest qualifier. Both the 200 and 400 freestyle relays will be likely paced by the girls from The Woodlands as they are the top seed in both events and also look to have a great shot at claiming the team state title.
It should be a great weekend here in Austin as FloSwimming brings you the UIL Texas High School 5A State Championships! Be sure to check back for extensive coverage of the meet all weekend long.

what does umbach swim?
barber is back state record in 500?
moldenhauer going the 100 back?
mens 4 free relay under 3 min?
i agree with him and think this will become more common with the michael phelps affect. The kid who gets cut from his football team will try swimming and then excel at it. A kid on my high school team was that exact same situation, cut from his football team, he picked up swimming and in three years went from a 26 high 50 free to a 19.72 at big 12s this past weekend for mizzou. thats only going to get more common
Especially with the new suits being better suited (excuse the pun) for sprinters, it will open up a whole new diverse population to swimming.
And for those who think i am being racist or anything, i am not. I welcome the diversity and the sport needs it.
Also, from what I've heard, his brother Kerrington quit playing basketball earlier this year, I think that was a good decision. He will have a great HS senior year for swimming.
He's 6'8" with a vertical jump of 32+.
check him out

MR spilt leonhardt was out in 22.3 at jrs in the fly. think before you spout.
As for the hole Hill and McIntee brothers thing, put it to rest. Add in the relays, true there are other swimmers but had Dax swam the 100Free where do you figure he would of placed? What about the 100Fly? Well Ill take that back. The McIntee brothers scored the most points at the state swim meet. But the Hill brothers are by far the most versitile brothers in the State, they could've scored in multiple events at the state meet. I think maybe thats what their coach was tryig to do, finish higher in the State swim meet Id have to say 3rd place isnt bad
Dax--1st in 100 breast, 4th 200 free
Kerrington- 3rd in 50, 8th in 100 fr
Brendan- 1st in 500, 3rd in 200 fr
Kyle-3rd in 500, 7th in 200 fr
If my math is correct, the mcintees did score more points than the hills
Yeah, I see we have alot of plano area people here, I can agree the McIntee borthers are really good. But they didnt have the same type of competition that the Hills did in every event, according to the nisca power poll the Hills are still stronger, and they DID score more points at the state meet then the McIntee brothers. Thompson and Cragin have raced this year, and many times before. Thompson has always won, Thompson swam in the mid 46's earlier this year. It would be a good race but Im pretty sure Thompson wasn't going all out. Leodonart is gonna be a man on a mission next year, and anyone who thinks Gray Umbach is fully grown is crazy( he is already better than Smalley even as FR Umbach is faster than Smalleys SR year) and a freshman at kingwood college park by the name of Joe Stanton!
mine too
Great underwaters Austin- guess those fish flops paid off.

are there real-time results anywhere?
Paul Leonhardt is my hero
And I've heard that he shut it down on the free... so it will be interesting to see how fast he can go in finals...
The callup did not change, it has always been the 1st in each event in each region plus the next 8 fastest in the state.
but it would be awsome to have spin and maybe some others(?) swim with us in uil
This is going to be a BLAZING fast meet. Watch out for Leonhardt and Thompson
woodlands, churchill, kingwood up for grabs on girls side.
6 state records on boys side probably 6 on girls and a couple of nat records at least
sub 140 to final in boys 200 free
