The "female Phelps" is not an appropriate description for Katie Hoff. Hoff is actually a better distance swimmer relative to her peers than Phelps. Like Phelps she dropped huge amounts of time at a young age to qualify for the Olympics at her first trials. Since then she has expanded beyond the 400 IM into distance freestyle and backstroke. She was coached by Paul Yetter at North Baltimore Aquatic Club but now swims with Bob Bowman.
Around 20 Olympians as well as multiple national team members come together in what looks on paper to be one of the fastest meets in recent memory. Last year at The Missouri Grand Prix a World and American record fell, proving that Missouri's pool is one of the fastest in the country. Add to that an even deeper, faster field of swimmers and the debut of the new Speedo LZR and we've got the makings for a smoking fast kick off to the long course season. Oh yeah, and the format is set to prep the Olympians for Beijing... we're going prelims at night finals in the morning. Better eat your Wheaties...
