how could anyone not like the cape? He's just having a little fun. God forbid someone enjoy the meet and try to entertain the crowd a little. The standard team uniform that everyone else wears is way more exciting.

Gary is a showman. He is not arrogant, he says "controversial" things because he knows the media will eat it up. Besides most of the time he is right anyway. If you ever met Gary and ate a meal with him your ill opinions of him would totally change, guaranteed. I know because I was his teammate and roommate at Pan Ams last summer.

So Happy   July 5, 2008 at 7:51pm
i hope everyone saw that ridic cape he wore up to the blocks. i'm happy he didn't make it. i'm not gonna call him names although there are many at the tip of my tongue, all i have to say is i'm happier about him losing than weber gale or tobriner winning. i'm not in any way trying to take away from their victory (which was amazing) i'm just elated that (as x said) the douche bag got what was coming to him. usa swimming should be known for class acts like brendan hansen not arrogant ppl like gh.

Hall's Great   June 30, 2008 at 8:57am
Yes, heaven forbid we have a swimmer who is confident against his competition. My gosh lighten up, Hall is great for the sport and we ned more like him. Yes he was suspended for marijuana, I am sure he is the only swimmer who has done something illegal. I am sure there are no US swimmers who have not partaken in that or drank underage or anything.
Also nice way to state the obvious, to try and CYA. He has won multiple medals in the Olympic games and is still competing on a world class level, yeah I guess you could say he is talented.

I would have to agree with X. First, classroom success doesn't necessarily transfer into the ability to judge character...unless I missed out on that class in school. Secondly, Hall has had his fair share of blunders to make one think bad about him. A couple of examples being his outward iness (Hall v. Lezak, Hall v. Popov) or his suspension for the use of marijuana. To use your own words, you would think he would have been smart enough to not smoke pot. However, whether you agree with Gary and his actions, you have to admit he is a very very talented athlete.

if you think hall is a d-bag you obvously havent had the opportunity to ever talk to him. you would think swimmers, with their reputation for classroom success, would be smart enough to not judge someone unless they really, truly know them.
