Truth Is An Idiot   July 26, 2009 at 10:48pm

These pads are not as accurate as you may believe. There were over 30 protest at the 2001 World Championships. The US took one of the results to court and won with the video. If any of you saw the construction of these pads i think you would be amazed at the amount of trust everybody puts in them. I would suggest that before you shoot off your mouth you know what you are talking about.
You tell me you're an engineer on the pads and I'll believe you. As an engineer designing these sensors, it amazes me idiots like yourselves lay claim to being an expert in these devices. The fact is across the board, these devices are designed to extremely strict tolerances, well beyond the measurement of the human eye. If there was a variance they would have showed up in all other races in the pool. To be doubly sure, the pads in the CENTER of the pool would have to be double checked for their accuracy, as the scrutiny is highest with the probability of the victories in this area. Omega would not still be in business if the pads were unreliable. The fact that there is video evidence corroborating the close wins (and the serbs withdrawing their protest as a result) clearly show that even the most partisan of parties agreed with the ruling. It is YOU that should shut up or get a remedial engineering degree before you feign expertise in something you don't know jack about.

Question?   August 22, 2008 at 11:24am
Were the 2008 Olympics using 2001 pads? Have electronics/technology advanced at all in the last 7 years? Very weak response Truth.

The accuracy of present day timing equipment is well beyond 1/100 of a second...this should've been known to those who protested so they don't look silly....

As to "Kosovo je Srbija" comment...what's it doing here...accept the fact that you lost, otherwise you are bound to repeat the mistakes of the (recent) past.

No need for trash talk about Mike. Cavic is great person and very good swimmer. He did what he did, but Phelps is the greatest at all. It was the most exciting race ever and congratulations for both of them!

I just don't understand how anyone thinks they can protest the result of an electronic touch-pad finish...

What a great race!! When I watched it live I thought Milorad had won. Replay after replay I still thought Milorad had won. But a 1/100th of a second is about few pieces of paper thick (thin). And it was that close. After watching few more replays I actually saw Phelps touching first. I told my family while watching that Milorad's speed into the touch may not have activated that pad as precise as Phelp's short stroke finish did. I as a coach would have questioned the results also. I have had swimmers win and lose races by 1/100th of a second and you scratch your head over the result for a while but eventually respect the result. And the electronics must be respected. Great job to both swimmers! Did anyone notice that Ian Crocker lost the bronze by 1/100th of a second too. They did not replay that over and over. Tough 4th place finish for Ian.

Neither Cavic or Bottom filed the protest. It was filed by the Serbian Olympic Committee. Check out Cavic's blog. He seems like a pretty cool dude to me.

man that was some RACE! I wish we could have seen the high speed cameras the FINA guys looked at so we could see for ourselves who won the race. I had my Tivo going frame-by-frame and still I could not see who won. but WHAT A RACE! And Phelps... 7 Gold.. CRAZY!

Mike has to be one of the nicest guys their is in swimming and he is realistic and pratical. From his HS National Records to his European Record and World Record I wish Mike all the best in the 100 Fly and I hope that by some way/chance he wins and breaks the world record. He has the talent now all he needs his that once in a lifetime swim to come through. I hope I get the chance to meet you one day mike, your my inspiration. (So Crocker, I think your an amewsome guy, but it is mike's turn to shine, still beat Phelps).
