- See Less - Garrett started swimming as a summer leaguer at age 7. He swam 2 years of high school and decided to take the sport a little more seriously after going to his HS State Championship on a relay as a junior. His senior year, he was a runner up at the Washington State Championships in the 50 Free.
After 5 years of collegiate swimming, he hung up the goggles as a national qualifier in both backstrokes and graduated with a degree in Broadcast Journalism from The University of Missouri.
A few months after he graduated he started floswimming.org.
Duncan Scott is, indeed, the man. He's a great announcer and his knowledge of the sport is amazing. He adds so much to the meet when he announces. Arizona swimming is very privileged to have him.
Having grown up with the AZ High School swimming system, it can be a little confusing. In my days there were 2 state meets at the same pool and that was it. Now there are 5 state meets. 1-3a, 4a1, 2a2, 5a1 and 5a2. What is going on right now are the 2 5a meets. Division 1 in one side of the pool and division 2 in the other.
Duncan is the man. He knows everything there is to know about who people are, what they swim, how they swam in previous meets and everything in between.
Good luck to all those swimming today!
Garrett, your ability to focus is fantastic, given that you are all over the map and at so many different events with so many different athletes. As far as the handle that Coach Duncan has on Arizona HS swimming.....he has a passion for swimming and it comes out in his commentary. AZ is lucky to have someone so knowlegable and interesting. What a command of his stats and stories and personalities.
