why would you blame McD's timing system for Gile's 19.7? Why/how would McD intentionally "rigg" their timing system to lower the times posted? That would not only benefit the Eagles, but also their competition. McD was trying to win the championship title, so it doesnt make sense why they would mess with their equipment.
Fatty went so far out of their way to make up that story, not to mention you did a pretty bad job of disguising where your kid goes to school. So since you obviously live in the Baltimore area, why dont you show up to one of Gile's four 5 AM practices a week, or one of his 6 afternoons and see for yourself how hard he trains. He 150 % deserves every bit of his successes, and obviously his competitors and rivals agree.

very well said coach when my suit ripped in the back in the ready room giles and sullivan both were scrambling to try and fix it. i mean what guy top seed in the 50 fr at finals in the ready room breaks there concentration to help someone else in need so there able to compete that night. gotta hand it to him for sure

Coach Ward was right on - those were great accomplishments so don't try to knock them down. My son was at select camp with Giles and had great things to say about his personality and character (as did our club coach who was also a camp coach.) Congrats to Giles and good luck to him this summer and college career.

Alright, I’m not hiding behind a false name and I’m going to have to finally respond because it’s unfortunate that adults are taking cowardly shots at a great kid. I’m not saying this just because I coach him. Ask the coaches that have worked with him at the select camps or ask the guys that compete against him. He wants to win but his peers will tell you he is pretty classy about his competitor’s successes when he gets beat. Watch his post race interview. It’s taken minutes after tying for fourth after being the top seed at finals.

As far as the double suit issue, yes he wore two suits at the MIAAs but the underneath suit was a lycra Speedo brief. I wouldn’t let him double suit (with a tech suit) because I did not want anyone or anything to take away his accomplishment if he broke the record. I have even kidded him several times that Joe set his record (20.01) in just a brief.
In regards to the timing system issue, the console had just been serviced and software updates over the summer (which we do every year). Most people know that watch times vary from race to race depending on the person holding the watch. Here is a study to back it up: http://hypertextbook.com/facts/2006/reactiontime.shtml
I’m pretty sure Fatty Corpuscle is an adult who lacks class and courage because if you “have nothing but respect for the guy” you wouldn’t anonymously post something to take anyway from this kid’s accomplishment by claiming the time is not legitimate.

clearly the times arent wrong, time it yourself:

and even if he was double suiting, who cares, at that time everyone was. the 19 was completely legitamate

If Fatty was there he also knows that the kid double suited at MIAAs, both a B70 AND a LZR. Surprised you did not mention that. The days of that race strategy and the obvious advantages are no over.

i'm not saying that giles isn't fast, he's an excellent swimmer all-around, and i have nothing but respect for him. but i heard and saw for myself that during the MIAA meet where he set his record, the clocks were running about three-tenths of a second faster than the swimmers were, making his time around a 20.0. a lot of the people, including coaches, officials, and myself, kept on getting times that were a little slower than those appearing on the electronic system. i'm not knocking giles at all, just mcdonough's equipment. i have no doubt in my mind though that he's gonna be under 20 by hte end of next year and 19 in the next couple years, and wish him all the best. just saying...

What people may not realize is that this guys swims a 137 200 Free as well as a 19+ 50. He may be one of those guys who goes 134+ as a freshman on the 800 Free relay. I don't see how he doesn't take it out in 21+ and 45+, and get back in 24s.
