Auburn won because of their AMERICAN swimmers! Not because of their "mercenaries." It was swimmers like JARED WHITE, KOHLTON NORYS, LOGAN MADSON, ADAM KLEIN, AND TYLER MCGILL that Auburn won this meet. Targett and Jakob both didn't score nearly as many points as they might have, so the "foreign mercenaries" theory is ridiculous! Watch out next year for these Tigers! They only graduate a few guys and pull in huge sprinters like Chris Fox, Adam Brown, Joey Hale, and Kyle Owens.

WAR DAMN EAGLE!
That is a very good point. All those guys were there last year and they were in either 5th or 6th. They really stepped it up and made the championship a total team effort.

Lets not forget they are also pulling in some kid named Stuart Ferguson. I hear he's kind of fast...

I agree you said Target didnt score as many points as he could have but dont try and down play the fact that he scored a huge amount of points. they couldnt have won without him

Its funny how everyone comes out knocking their education when AU wins a swimming championship. Hilarious, because there are many teams at that meet whose school is actually consistently "ranked" lower than Auburn (including one by the name of Arizona.) We are very lucky in swimming to have the majority of our top twenty teams be very good academic schools (i.e. Stanford, Cal, USC, UNC) This is absolutely no reason to knock the others because they cant be consistently ranked on the Princeton Review's Top Ten. And the "mercenary" thing is pretty hilarious too. Besides Texas, which top ten school DOESNT have a foreigner? Eddie Reese, in my opinion, needs to wake up and recruit foreigners if he wants to win a national championship again in his career. Like it or not, the foreigners are here to stay.
Texas doesnt not need to do that,D'nessenzo and Cragin are good enough haha.

2 Things   March 30, 2009 at 2:04pm
1: Texas didn't "fail again". They never have up until this year. The talking heads who always predict Texas as #1 are stupid. I remember 3 or 4 years back when Auburn stomped on everyone (and everybody knew it was coming), for some reason Texas was "the favorite" in the polls, when anyone with any intelligence could have told you Auburn would run away with it. This is the first "surprise" champion in a very long time. Even though I have no respect for their past antics, 23/24 year old foreigners, and so-called academic standards, they swam out of their minds this weekend. Congrats to Auburn for swimming so fast.

2: Stanford and Michigan rarely recruit foreigners. The Dunfords weren't recruited (by the way, they're the appropriate ages for their classes, unlike most other foreigners around college swimming). Markus Rogan lived in the US. Matthew Swanston will be at Stanford next year, but he's from Canada (not exactly "foreign").
Andre Schultz and Alon Mandel are the only ones I'm coming up with in recent history for U of M. Oh, and Andrew Hurd from Canada, if that even counts

Well, it's pretty hard to tell if the Jaked is the fastest suit out there when events were being won in other suits as well, (LZR's, Blue Seventy, Aqua Zone, TYR Titan). But one cool thing about them is that they come in different colors like gold, red, pink, and lime green

Swimmers, swimmer, swimmers...don't lower yourselves to the depths of this football junkie. They can't do what we do and we can't do what they do. It is as simple as that. No point in disputing this. The reason they play football is because they can run faster than us (RB, WR, QB, TE, LB, Safeties) or they are so huge they can stop the fast guys (O line, D line). They could not make it through a swim practice - no doubt about it. But then again, I wouldn't want to try to make it through the hitting they do - pads or no pads. I swam because I was faster in the water than on land. I think most of us are in the same boat. I would like to see Phelps or Thorpedo take a hit from Ray Lewis - ouch! And I would love to see Tom Brady, TO, Tony Gonzales, LT, Vick (if he can get out of prison) and Palamalu swim a 200 free. Apples vs. Oranges.
i don't think so Phelps would put pads on and ripe it up!

it takes a hell of a lot more skill and effort to make it through a mid-season swim practice than it does to make it through ANY football practice... and this is coming from a former football player. besides, i dont know any swimmers who are thugs, shoot themselves in the leg(plexico burress), tear locker rooms apart(terrell owens), or slap around their baby's momma (santonio holmes)

also, most swimmers who i know have nearly immaculate grades... cant say the same about any football players i know, save one or two

who is this is fat ass football player. if u new about swimming u would never say it wasn't a sport. You couldn't make it through one day of a swimmers workouts. I hardly think 350 pound lineman falling on each other is a sport. By the way we have a saying in swimming, " if swimming were easy they would call it football!" I also played 5 years of football and know for a fact swimmers are tougher and harder working than football players.

Thats great that these guys get to celebrate every once and a while. You see, swimming is just like Chess-- it requires a lot of skill and work, but ultimately, it just isn't a real sport. Now football, that's a sport. Football players train harder and have more influence when it comes to the big $!
