I love this kids attitude, you see so many athletes dwell on their injuries and use it as an excuse for why they shouldn't succeed but to see him turn that around and use it as motivation to get better is extremely refreshing and an inspiration in itself.
This segment was much more interesting than Part I. Part I sounded like regurgitation of things they've heard on SportsCenter ("perseverance", "hard-work", "commitment", blah, blah blah). The personal stories are much more illuminating. Great segment!
Kinda bumbed we didn't hear a little from Whitney Myers. This video from a couple years ago illustrates a little bit what an athlete goes through after a less than satisfying season - and how they get back on it. I've shown it to my swimmers. Love hearing how elite athletes think.
This is the antithesis for those who think swimming is only an individual sport. It is probably an easier thing to accomplish on a school team, but just think of how much complaining it would stop if it could be accomplished on a large club team.
Markus Titus. He is partially deaf and wears a hearind aide. Without it in he cannot hear. On the start he looks over for the flash, and has a great start. He has been 2nd at NCAAs and I am not sure his best time, but 52.low I think.
In part 2 of this U of A Team Talk, Frank asks his swimmers to give examples of how they've gotten through the tough times. At the end of the talk he emphasizes an undeniable characteristic at U of A: Team. June 25, 2009
