i know ryan does a great job at flotrack, but floswimming is going nowhere without garrett. the sign was pretty cool, just to see that people are really excited for swimming and it was actually televised on a non-olympic year. this season is getting really big, and there is no coverage, while flotrack keeps on growing. where's the coverage mark?

Hey everyone let's stop all of this - trust me I know how you feel and am now part of the Swimpulse crew trying to do something different. I have kept coming here to see what some of the response is from different sides of the coin.

This has turned into something too ugly - we now have track guys v swimming guys - I understand some may like confrontation - I enjoy it myself, but this stuff is going too far.
Garrett and Flo had a falling out there are many different reasons for that and many if not all should stay private - it is a business and trying to get things out on this is not business like on either side - Flo has to move on and Garrett has moved on to Swimpulse.net.
I would like to thank Ryan - he tried to do something for the business he worked for and for the fans of floswimming - I personally appreciate that he was simple with what he did and didn't try to come off like he knew swimming.
If you like the direction of Flo than keep coming and enjoy it, if not got to a new venue that you do like and don't continually bash on everybody and anybody - I would encourage Flo to do the same move forward and don't cheapen what you are trying to build by being negative.
My two cents - World Champs was interesting, exciting and a great platform for swimming which is exciting and interesting.
Let's all move on and enjoy the sport!!!!
um there was no coverage of the biggest meet of the year.....

my two cents is better than yours

too bad you live in the flux of ontological anxiety, the 'poorer' countries you named do well because they are born with natural running qualities and from a young age they run in their local existence its part of everyday life- lack of swimming pools and water in general does inhibit their participation to individuals like eric m in 2000. to compare swimming to your natural running countries, australia do better in swimming as they have more access to water and its in their culture- its really a case of different horses to courses . in both sports there are 'poorer' individual countries who have individuals rise to the the top at times. swimming is slower(like running to many other sports) but we have to deal with forces places upon our bodies that you cannot even comprehend- dense matter does tend to slow down any individual, try running in snow without snow shoes. running is getting to a a genetic stalemate where only the genetic elite break records- swimming is still at a point where hard work and determination get a long way.

they did rethink garretts budget and he went and got money from elsewhere- thick. you don't think we are not getting plants from team Floreani either? they have just taken on advocare as a sponsor of the website that was implicated in the jessica hardy clenbuterol case- where the indepandent tests at ucla from the ex WADA program head showed that the product had been tainted. would much rather have a product like blueseventy sponsoring the site than one that will settle out of court to clear its name. blueseventy has put money back into the sport and sure the tec suits case will come to a head soon but its been refreshing getting the inside news with their dealings with fina. are we going to be getting updates on the payout to jess hardy from advocare....'hmmmmm' i think not. i don't think what is said on the websites will change the process of regulating the tec suits, but im glad of garrett and floswimming at the time letting us hear whats going on behind the press statements- everyone has their own stance on the suits and floswimmings association with blueseventy has educated my analogue of the issue, but not swayed my collective consciousness

Still do, and I'll watch whatever he starts... but (yeah there is a but), I like FloTrack! I've used some of the running drills, workouts, etc., to help make my athletes better on the land.

Don't hate flotrack (just floswimming), also if there are workouts on flowrestling check them out, wrestlers are beasts.
All in all, I'll be checking out Track and Wrestling, just not the swimming portion anymore. Sorry Flo Bros, Garrett was the man!

Stats From CS.com   July 13, 2009 at 9:43pm
I read some where that 70% of all statistics are made up.

Did he look at the total population of people in the US that run versus swim and compare that to the number of hits/members for each?
The stats about idiocy, those are probably correct but not near as bad as CS.com. That was the reason I left that site two years ago.

the webmasters obviously post on this site under different names and also delete posts that cause too much debate- or are too much to the point. runners out there just accept that we follow a higher evolutionary sport, you guys are still doing what the cavemen did; swimming is a combination of a persons desire to become one with the element of water in a activity that oscillates between joy and fear, between domination and submission, as the swimmer delivers themselves with controlled abandonment to the forces of gravity. so go for gold and follow your desires but leave the swimming to the swimmers. i have been lucky enough to run my own business from a young age and can say if you are passionate about something, you will find a way to get it done. if there is a barrier, you find a way to get over it- as garrett did, he could have sat back and accepted the financial constraints, instead he found away to do his job. I think garrett deserves a big thumbs up for that! i assume that garrett never got a long with mark, as when you have the lack of faith in someone or the reason they are giving them- that drives individuals to push the boundaries and frantically dedicate themselves to something. garrett in a dogmatic view did the best thing for the swimming community and got the funds to send himself to the event- mark obviously underestimated him and turned to putting his hand out and when that didn't work he decided to fire him. mark subconsciously considers himself center of the world that he has created and has some special dispensation that puts him on the fast track to the future- if he didn't live in that dream world it would be difficult for him to face the reality of his life. i feel sorry for someone who has this overwhelming presumption about what they feel they are entitled to from this world- too bad mark that being insensitive to human needs, will in the end get you no where in this life. your way only leads to a morass of anxiety and apathy. what will happen when the next person outdoes you and has more drive and talent- you can only fire so many people.

So clearly we're getting plants of information here from Team Garrett and we're supposed to be impressed that a "journalist" is on the take from a high tech suit company that is scrambling to survive by controlling what websites say about them? Sorry but that's not a real journalist does.

And some web geek over on collegeswimming.com has figured out that Floswimming is getting under 20% the traffic that Flotrack is (and about 1000 percent the idiotic nastiness). Hmmm. If I were the Floreani's, I'd be rethinking the FloGarrett budget too.

First of all, the money from blueseventy was entirely to pay Garrett and Chris' travel to Rome. It was far less than $4,000. The Floreani's were sore because Blueseventy rejected their laughable business proposal for more money. Since they didn't feel like blaming themselves or their incompetent marketing guy, Pat Hitchins, they decided to make Garrett a scapegoat.

Garrett only went after the travel funds after the Floreani's told him they would not invest any more money in floswimming.

I have owned my own business for the last 20 years and if one of my guys did that I would have fired him too... If he is getting sponsor ship money it is not up to him to decide how it gets spent. It sounds like he should be raising money and giving it to the company and they decide how much can be spent on travel.

They told Garrett to get sponsors to pay for his trip to Rome... so he did... BlueSeventy, somewhere in the $4,000 range...

However, Garrett assumed he was supposed to take all that money and spend it on his travel, etc. But when Flopoop's Big Turds found out he came across that kind of money and didn't turn any of it in... they fired him!

New Coke, your analogy is horrible. This isn't in response to losing market share a la coke but it was a decision made at the management level for reasons WE DON'T EVEN KNOW. I for one respect the Flo team in general for attempting to keep this site going and keep adding content even when they don't have someone to run the site.

It isn't the best of circumstances, but making every comment section a "lets bash the guys at flo for getting rid of Garrett" session does nothing to accomplish anything. In fact, I'll go out on a limb and say that everyone who does that is just as bad as Craig Lord when he rants on suits in every single news story, and we all know how useful that is. I loved Garrett as much as the next guy, but lets try not to forget what his goal was, and what the goal of this site still is: to promote the sport of swimming. So rather than hating on flo every chance we get, why don't we try to get excited about the Eric Shanteau, Ryan Lochte, Michael Phelps, Aaron Peirsol, Tyler Clary and the biggest meet since the olympics that would seem to be much more beneficial.

Many of the respondents on this site might not remember when Coca Cola tried to change the recipe for standard Coke. A version called "New Coke" was released and the old version was not available. The New Coke failed miserably. Coke Corporate did not understand or, in fact, discounted the loyalty of Coke drinkers to the original recipe. But, Coca Cola quickly recognized the error of their ways and put "old" coke back on the market. hmmmmm.
