Her name is Laura Klick. She went lifetime bests in the 100 (1:03.23) and 200 breaststroke (2:16.84) and now is our school record holder in both. The male breaststroker in this video is also now our school record holder in the 100 (53.97) and 200 (1:56.98).
You have no brain. you obviously think you are really smart but you are not, you are actually rather stupid. You will either try and make some witty coment as a response to me calling you stupid or you will do that stupid thing where you give in and say "you're right, I am stupid" then try and respond to prove to everyone out there that you are not stupid. You are one of those guys who thinks he knows everything. You said that all the negative coments on this page are from the same person? Ha! that's only because you are close minded. If you would open your eyes and get out of Obama's nasty behind then you would realize that some people out there, more than one, think negative things about the things that you think are positive. Don't even bother responding to this comment because you will just make yourself look bad
Great job Chris! Haters obviously a) are making irrational judgments on a clip that shows about 0.125% of the season yardage, not to mention all the other mind, body and spirit preparation that goes into a season b) not doing things right with their own team and are just upset they are slow.....and finally c) don't have an adult male in a speedo dry humping their leg 4:45 seconds into this video....keep up the good work Chris!
Does anyone see the similarities between John Doe, HaHa, and No It's Not? Let this obviously young high schooler fade away. He's had his 15 minutes of fame (under 3 different names apparently).
This site is excellent! The good it does for the sport well outweighs the occasional childish rant caused by someone claiming to be wronged by censorship (whether they are right or wrong doesn't matter to me). Just keep up the great work and don't let the ignorant input slow you down!
dont know what you are talking about, penn is still a big d1 school, and has very fast swimmers, maybe not as good as auburn, but you have to be just as good to swim here
Thank you floswimming for doing an awesome job! I agree with several of the comments below--it's nice every once in a while to see a set that those of us who aren't superheroes can perform and learn from. Don't get me wrong, it's inspiring to see the practices from powerhouse programs like Auburn ect. but a mixture of both types of videos is greatly appreciated. Thank you for Garrett for all your work on this site!
Garrett can edit content of his own website as he wishes. There is no democracy here, this is not a question of censorship - it is Garrett's site - he can do as he pleases.
It seems pretty simple - people who do not like the site (and are getting their comments deleted) should just move on to another site. What is so hard about that?
This site is great. Keep up the great work Garrett!
there are a lot of websites that require a fee. There are a lot of websites that do not allow comments. If Garrett chooses to let this site be free of charge and to allow comments, he should be free to monitor content... especially when it is in the interest of the positive promotion of the sport of swimming.
Garrett lets a lot of negative comments through... it is the ones that are personally insulting and add nothing to the discussion that he deletes. I say, go start your own website and promote swimming your own way if you think anonymous bashing is okay. Let Garrett run his site the way he wants to and respect his wishes. It is his house and you are guests. Get over it.
How American is only letting positive things be said? How democratic is quieting the minority's opinion. Obviously saying something negative on this site puts you in the minority. just because not many people agree with what someone says doesnt mean it should be taken off the site. You need to take a look at your own values because censoring what I or anyone else writes is not American, it's communist. Look up Che Guevara, he's probably your hero.
Garrett, I love what you did with this website, it is GREAT for swimming. I just don't like how you erase what people write. If has bad words or if it insults people then maybe I can see taking it down but really. Just because someone has a bad opinion doesnt mean that you should take it down. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should.
You prob voted for Obama didn't you? You sure do like the socialist aspect of running a website. You only want good and positive things on your site! ? If you have the room for a wall to be wrote on then let people write on it what they wish. Dont censor things because you or other people don't agree. You still have alot to learn, you still have some growing up to do.
Complaining about censorship behind an anonymous name (doesn't get anymore anonymous than John Doe) is flat out hypocritical.
We don't put these things up hoping that John Doe will tell us good job. We put up things that start conversations and spread ideas. I work hard finding that content and putting it together. If all you can add is that "everyone does this set and its not impressive," fine. Sound like an idiot. There are enough people who obviously enjoy what is put into this site everyday. But if you're going to anonymously insult people who put their faces and voices out for everyone to see without adding something to the conversation... your comments will be deleted. It's not fair to the swim fans who love what we do that some people won't do an interview because they're scared of getting ripped on by anonymous cowards.
You know, I thought swimmers were supposed to be smart, for athletes at least. Obviously not--for those of you (at least two as I look down the list) who commented about the breastrokers saving up--really? Did you watch the video? The girl was consistent 1.16-1.17 the entire set. Fast from the beginning. Perfect.
I really like this set too. These two drills were like the first drills i could remember when i started out swimming, its nice to see these simple drills used with swimmers at the higher level.
he put this up so that we could watch his team do a workout, thats why i watched it and thats why most of us watch these videos. im pretty happy cuz we got to see a girl repeatedly go 3 seconds off her best time (ps congrats to who ever you are that 1:16.0 was gnarly) in 100 breast from a push, he didn't put it up so that people would praise him for what a great, inventive coach he is.
First off Ben - you just don't know what real creative coaching is you are still recovering from having a bad age group coach ;)
Second - good job and if you have seen Roques old logbook I hope you have recovered from it, knowing what Joe does now I have to catch my breath just talking to his swimmers about what they are doing.
I want to add that this is actually the second time we have done this set- kind of. Earlier in the season it was 6 rounds of the same with all out 200s at the end and they were asked to descend that time.
I ripped this set from a conversation with Roque Santos a while back. He was reading me his old workout book from his pre-college coach, Joseph Nagy. Joseph currently coaches in Canada on the National Staff. Just wanted to make sure those guys got credit.
I totally agree with Ben. Many of the weekly workouts we have seen here are, in a word, gimmicky. In other words, are the auburn sprinters fast because they "scull" Gatorade and then race until they puke? No. The best WWW's are the ones where the athletes are just busting their butts. Good music helps too...
Chris,
As someone who uses Floswimming as a source of information for my coaching, as well as inspiration and entertainment, I enjoyed your WWW for its practicality. Feats of superhuman swimming and original works of coaching genius are fun to watch but I feel some recent WWW have been creative for creativity's sake and not necessarily practical, especially for the average age-group club. Your set is wonderfully simple yet engaging, holds tightly to its purpose (technique), and remains challenging! Boom! Fin. It reminds the viewer to never loss sight of stroke fundamentals, whether you're the swimmer training or the coaching educating, and that good technique must inevitably be practiced at high speed. Very refreshing. Thanks,
Chris, great set. I completely agree, I tell my swimmers to reach, but never glide in breast and fly. I think its a great set design, a technical set-up, and then a race situation practicing great technique. Only good coaches can add that element of technique to hard sets.
It obviously wasn't the most exciting WWW we've ever seen, but we can't expect Auburn Puke sets or Katie Hoff throwing down ridiculous IM's every time. The FloSwimming crew has been doing a fantastic job with the coverage of recent dual meets, and has been really busy. This is the kind of set that makes you faster, not to mention the fact that I learned a few good breaststroke pointers from Chris. Nice job.
PS As far as descending is concerned, really guys? Cut these kids a break, they tried the whole set, and as they are on a training trip, they have to be exhausted.
A set doesn't have to be new or unique all of the time. A simple set can be the most effective. If you've have or haven't read the book Gold in the Water, the coach that is profiled in the book Jochums who is regarded to one of the best coaches in the business only used 6 different sets. Also, look at the examples on this site of 'Pace Workout With Michael Klueh' or 'Main Set at USC' their simple but highly effective.
A coach makes a decision on a work out depending on many factors and this set seem to fit for this group and what they needed work on.
yea i think any experienced swimmer (good or bad), has descended a an all out sprint 100s set, it doesnt mean you werent trying hard on the first one, it just works out that way sometimes depending on how your feeling, it was a simple but great set
Wow, it is like i wrote it...then you totally disregarded what I wrote and went ahead and made yourself look foolish by doing the exact thing I said people would.
See Chris, you just can't win unless you hang glide in, run up a hill with rocks, invent a time machine, and find a unicorn. John Doe actually disappoints me because if you are going to complain at least do it with style.
Actually took his comment as a compliment. He said this is a set that swimmers have to do to get faster. I want my swimmers to get faster so I'm glad we're doing it. Of course I mix it up from this over the course of the season and some workouts are more creative than others.
Also, if John Doe was a better coach than me and wouldn't be embarrassed to have his name attached to these comments, he wouldn't be posting as John Doe.
My comments referred to the set as a whole. Not every athlete descended, in particular the two breaststrokers featured here held pretty much the same pace the whole way through. There were times off camera that you didn't see. In a perfect world, your swimmers would be able to do their fastest possible time on #1 and hold it throughout-but real training hardly ever plays out this way. I don't think it was a matter of effort, I definitely saw that from start to end. Some of the swimmers got a little bit more focused on details (turns, pullouts, stroke rate) as the set went on to squeeze a little bit more out. As a coach, I still say you have to be happy with that.

on your two kick-one pull drill add a child size pullbuoy. alternate two with the buoy and two without. look at your athletes knees on the kick recovery and have them focus on keeping them together and clean through the water.
I'm not so sure that they were. I think he said that they were hitting the times he wanted at the beginning, they just happened to be going faster than his expectations. I could be way off on that though.
You are right- this set isn't highly creative. Its the type of set that can even be really bad or really good depending on effort. The most important parts of a set like this happen off camera and inside athlete's minds while they motivate themselves and push for something they thought maybe they couldn't do. We'll have a technique tuesday breaststroke edition up for you at some point once I get the underwater case for my camcorder.
Chris,
If the point of the 100 was to be an all out effort... Why were you happy that they were descending them? In my book, an All-Out Effort means exactly what it means... Not sure I would be too happy with a descend effort.... especially as you were giving them as much rest as needed... Sounds too me like they were doing the set wrong.
haha i actually thought about what i was going to say before i read this blog but i was going to give this set a bad review. This set is nothing new, it is the same old same old. everybody has done this type of set before. but this type of set is a must for anybody in college swimming. this is the type of set that makes you fast. I am not going to give desantis a good job for this one because it is nothing new or unique. My coach does this stuff, so do my friends at other schools. Not a bad set by any means but this set deserves no congrats.
Ok, I've been pretty good about releasing a workout a week so I figure for the sake of alliteration I should start doing a Weekly Wednesday Workout. What do you think?
i heard that kyle loughran kid is so good looking
what is the name of the song plz?

Chris do you grunt when you get your swell on at the gym so everyone can see how jacked and tan you are?
On a serious note, I was the palest dude on this trip which included Brendan Gallagher who has red hair.
Is that you Robbie?
:)

I'm just being honest.
To the point.
Easy to explain.
I have a feeling because DeSantis didn't "Reinvent the Wheel" people are going to give him a hard time about this video.
NOT ME. THANK YOU CHRIS!!!
