I think they are awesome, i have 2 young boys that swim for Sevier Aquatic Club in Sevierville Tn, and i am going to Lowes now to get chain and assemble this on my power rack in garage, this strength coach is new age and has great ideas, my kids want to attend Auburn and if you look at college swim rankings year in year out who's at top or top 5 always.......Auburn! great job coach
Good vid, great ideas... Like people said here, you can do pretty much all these exercises on TRX bands or Gymnastics rings (and you can set up the rings for about U$60,00 a pair).
Regarding the comment before this one... Seriously, who besides Auburn won the Men's NCAA last year?
Karkoska has been the strength coach to some of the greatest sprinters in history... Cielo, Bousquet, Hawke, Pilczuk, Bovell, Lundquist, Puninski and many more. How is this guy not the most respected strength coach. Shouldn't we be doing videos on him? Gambetta...are you serious?
The chains that they are working on are a really good help for their swimming technique. It helps your core stability, and is also good for when you need to balance on the blocks, because I am of balance sometimes. I think this would be very good for a dryland workout for when I get older, but for now I am going to stay with the basics. Well done you guys!
The chains are excellent for integrating stabilization or balance training component with the variety of phasic limb movements necessary for swimmers. It makes sense for swimmers who need whole body exercises and not the traditional strength to power paradigm.
It's to bad theres not a video of these guys doing the TRX stuff for the first time. It's always hilarious to watch people do the bands for the first time.
sorry for being more interested in the swimming aspect of the sport and wanting to watch what i do. i dont need to be "spoon fed," nor am i saying to not have drylands at all, i just think the dry lands are getting too boring and i want to see some fast, interesting sets. Plus there are way too many auburn videos up here and, maybe cuz im a distance swimmer, id rather see sets than strength training .
Mr. A, since you do not even have the balls for a fake name. What you consider modified, I would call a lack of motivation. Everyone has land, everyone here mostly likely has some kind of pool time. The real problem here is your lack of creativity. You want someone to hand you the magic wand. Think outside the box. And just maybe, you might learn something new. Stop expecting to be spoon feed swimming knowledge.
PK is awesome! But he is still ugly!
I dont know about everyone else, but i want to see some more actual swimming sets. Its interesting see what these elite level swimmers do to train outside the pool, however, i'd rather see some fast swimming like the the usc, minnesota, and the multiple texas practices earlier posted. Also, most swimmer can do modified versions of those sets but, because of lack of equipment or other reasons, these dry lands cant always be done, so it doesnt really help to watch them. After all we are swimmers.
Anonymous Coward...I think the reason there have been so many recent dryland sets is that this site can easily go to southern colleges and tape what they do...the majority of the videos are from SEC/Big 12 Schools/teams on training trip in the south...and its just that time of the season right now...obviously kids that have a shot at the Olympics/doing well at trials are swimming hard but are now starting their taper...teams just arent pounding out the yardage right now...most colleges in the spring focus more on getting stronger than getting in shape for an ironman
to be honest, im tired of drylands, circuits and small technique sets....i love it but it's just getting a little old. I want to see some good yards done, like the first 4 videos on here
Probably not osgood-schlatter disease since that's usually caused by growth in height + overuse. Could be anything but those bands just decrease force on the patellar (over the knee) tendon. Good for loose swimmer joints.
Flyguy133---I think those are bands for oshgood-schlatters. My friend has oshgood-schlatters and she has to wear a band like that when she runs and stuff.
Ok, I've been pretty good about releasing a workout a week so I figure for the sake of alliteration I should start doing a Weekly Wednesday Workout. What do you think?
