Going into NCAAs as a sophomore, Dave is already a school record holder in the 200 Free and 800 Free Relay.
Last year Dave earned a Gold Medal as part of the 800 Freestyle Relay at World Championships and was the 2007 US Nationals Champion in the 100 Free.
insane...we do a broken 200
2x's75 with 10secs rest
1x's50 all to the hand
and the fastest ive been is 1.32.and some change and thats with a suite.
I guess thats why he has the american record and i'm 13th goin into ncaa's
I think he should have been 1:29.7 in the 200y free that year. He obviously didn't play his cards right lol. To do a proper simulation you would probably need a rest interval and not a generic interval. What those amounts of rest would be relative to the work done I am no expert on haha.
That was a sweet "broken 200" no matter how broken it was :).
but it seems to me that you would want to do it on a little faster interval because that would maybe give you a better idea of where youre really at in your training.....but apparently it works since he went 1:32.5 at big 12's.....
g-lord, this was right before big 12s...the point wasnt to get him tired by having short rest, it was to get him to focus on each piece of the set and nail his pace
im not hatin on walters 200 but im in high school and we go a set thats a 75 on :45 two 50s on :25 and a 25 on :10. again, im not talking sh#t about this set cuz 1:29 is pretty damn fast for anyone but it does seem like a litle too much rest to me.
dave walters is what you would call the best. and for those who were talking down on dave's 200, let's see you do something like that then you can call it whatever you want

Good set - but I think calling this a broken 200 is really stretching it. He is getting almost 30 seconds after the 50 and a solid 45 seconds after the 100. If he could do that with a 1/3 of the rest, we can call it a broken 200 -- this was more of a shattered 200
I'm guessing that is a predictor broken 100? If so I hope he is mentally in the zone to swim like that this week! He looks totally capable of a phenomenal time. I'm betting being taped for all of us to see gave him some extra excitement there too way to go floswimming! ;)
Dave Walters is one of the premier freestylers in the country. The week of BIG XIIs I made it to a Texas practice where I saw some pretty impressive pace work. Michael Klueh's 15x100 was one of the sets and this broken 200 from Dave was the other...
Broken Down:
50 from the blocks on :50
100 from a push on 1:30

Ok, I've been pretty good about releasing a workout a week so I figure for the sake of alliteration I should start doing a Weekly Wednesday Workout. What do you think?
