This was a great workout - we used it this morning with an old fart's group and it was very well received by most of the swimmers. Keeping track of the intervals was challenging, but we are easily challenged!

The first time I ever did this set I did it breast and went out way too hard going for faster intervals and ended up doing like a 1,500 straight breaststroke. Be smart! It sucks trying to catch the interval.
our coach made us do this set yesterday and it was sort of fun only that our pool is like 88 degrees and it was extreamly hot. and in the set i got up to a 150 on 1:50, 1:55, and 2:00. I would like to do it again but in breaststroke.

I swam for Tim O'Brien over 10 years ago at Swim Atlanta (John's Creek) for a year and a half, from when I was 12 to 13 years old. He seems pretty much the same. I even remember his handwriting. He was an excellent coach. I don't think he had this set then.
Wait so was the point of the set to see how much distance they could acomplish on each pace (so do a 25 on 20, then a 50 on 25 etc)? I got kinda lost.

This looks like a really great set. It works the aerobic side of things as well as the mental side, something that can get overlooked. I am definitely going to suggest this to my coach.

I love this set and think it has many positives. It is even easier to coach/observe if you run your workout through Hy-tek Workout manager and your scoreboard.
Nice challenge for some aerobi-sizing ! Unfortunately I dislike aerobic sets hahah. A real swimmer would go:
:25-50yd, ...,:35-75yd,...,:50-100yd,...,1:05-125yd,1:20-150yd,...,1:35-175yd,...,1:45-200yd,...2:00-225yd

On all that it is nice to see a new team get some coverage! As some meets come up I liked what you did with KING, following them around through some meet. Seeing how a single team functions at meets is great footage as well as functionality of the swimmers/coach at practice.
Wed. night is test set night with my swimmers. I think this is an awesome test set for many reasons. 1)keeps the swimmers mentally engaged with their set, by keeping track of times and distances. 2)plays swimmers off against eachother to see who can get the most distance. 3)Like any good test set, gives coaches an idea of the progress of their athletes. 4)Is flexible to meet the needs of a wide range of swimmers abilities.
Actually Bc i was thinking the exact opposite because this set is only as hard as you make it. Everyone could technically do 25s the entire way through but that wouldnt do them any good. The point is to push yourself as far as you see fit, which in my opinion will not burn someone out anywhere near as easy as making them do 20x100s on 1:15.

The entire goal of the set is to swim a much yardage as possible within each interval. On the first interval you swim as much as possible in 20 seconds. For everyone that is 25 yds. From there the intervals get longer by 5 seconds each round until you reach 2:00. Once you decide to try a new distance you can't go back down. If you miss the interval you just have to catch up. Hope that helps, though I know that it can be confusing.

This is how the set works:
The interval increases by 5 seconds each time. You start out at a 20 second interval, the next one being 25, then 30, and so on up to 2:00. It is the swimmer's decision as to what distance they wish to go. If someone wants to go for a 50 at the 25 second interval, then they can, but they must continue going 50s for their distances until they decide to increase the distance to 75 (so if a swimmer does not make a 50 on the 25, and misses the interval, they have to keep swimming 50s and play catch up until they have caught the interval). By 2:00 the goal is to see how far you can get (with freestylers aiming to do a 200).
