A 2-time Olympian for Australia, Brett was a 17-time All-American at Auburn in the late '90s.
In his second year as the sprint coach at Auburn, his work speaks for itself. This year one of Brett's swimmers, Cesar Cielo, set the NCAA record in both the 50 and 100 freestyle.

Question June 23 at 8:10pm
Does anybody know what the first two fifties were on?
Yes they actually swim just as much as the distant people swim on most days, but they do it in burst. The distant swimmers will normally have 2 practices a day where the sprinters will have 3 a day, and in the end of the day it all equals out to around the same give or take.
My coach picked this set up from a convention and we do it all the time in practice. Its weird seeing someone I used to train with (Mike Silva) do it though at the school it is named after. Good to know he is only going to seconds faster than me on that last breaststroke one.
so i'm a college swimmer turned high school coach and these videos are great! i've been able to get some great sets from such respected and talented programs and i only hope my girls see the benefits. i especially enjoy brett's sets b/c i find great ways to challenge the girls and switch things up a bit. thanks garrett and chris!
Um, can you say sprint group? What do you expect them to do, this isn't the whole team training like this. It just happens to work really well for the sprinters.
if thats true about them only doing these sprint sets that explains why they have like 8 guys in the 50 and 100 free top 16 at secs and like 2 in the 200 free. not that it matter though they have done alright without it...
i heard they don't do anything but sprint. they don't warm up, do these sprint sets and get out. same with that relay they did. They must do 10km a week
now this is what i like on my WWW. i suggest having a separate day for dryland. this is the stuff people come to see. any of the first several videos, the race club one, anything auburn, texas, stanford, olympian..that's the key.
he videos are great, not to mention he just coach some to an olympic gold and silver. it would of been awesome to watch brett and eamon against each other in this set.
Ron Paul Would Spank Obama November 12, 2008 at 11:08pm
in a debate. Yes We Can. Ha! Auburn can, Obama can't. Interesting sidenote: The Mises Institute is located in Auburn. The Austrian School of Economics has predicted every step of the crumbling of our current economy. That was an awesome workout video. http://www.mises.org
Jacob beat punninski who goes sub 20 for the 50fly...this is insane is so many ways. Where was he last year? I think Auburn would have won with him and targett
this is the kind of stuff makes auburn the best sprint team in the nation...this is why they'll probably win ncaa's this year...brett really knows what he's doing
To put it bluntly, this video is pretty badass. it's awesome to see Brett's swimmers respond so well to whatever is thrown at them. Brett is right in teaching them to be able to go whenever wherever, no matter the circumstances. They head off their season against UGA, it'll be interesting to see what they can do in meet mode. Best wishes
Great that Brett shares what he has learned from his homeland....we hope our
guys are glad to getting an ear for his tantalizing accent. Thanks Garrett.
In response to phelpsian breathing every stroke... Looks to me like those breathing about every stroke have tremendously high body positions still, must be working alright... 23.0 21.9? Yep thats alright with me :).
Bovell totally beat out Targett.... in the first dive 50
Garrett, thanks for coming in mate, you are welcome back anytime. We are happy to share our program with the World. People like you are what makes this country so great. I hope USA swimming creates a media award and gives it to you! Keep doing what you are doing. Cheers!
I'm impressed to see that Auburn does more serious stuff than throwing up at practice. Free 19s and Fly 21s are incredible for morning workout - proof that they work these guys aas hard as their workouts are smart. Thanks for the post Garrett
Does Brett Hawke work for floswimming, he is everywhere. Don't get me wrong, I like him and what he believes in I think is great, but he has a new video every week. And they always get the most comments... Is he on the payroll?
It would be nice if some other college teams were as open as Auburn about what they do.... Thanks for sharing the great workouts guys. One of the best Garrett!
Ok, I've been pretty good about releasing a workout a week so I figure for the sake of alliteration I should start doing a Weekly Wednesday Workout. What do you think?
Auburn will be a contender at NCAAs no doubt about it
guys are glad to getting an ear for his tantalizing accent. Thanks Garrett.
Bovell totally beat out Targett.... in the first dive 50
also interesting that his flyers are breathing every stroke....by design? Phelps-ian influence post-Olympics? or did they do this last year?
