definitely. im predicting that every american record on the mens and womens side is going to fall and a good number of those are going to be world records.
as i have said before in one of my posts anything is possible at the u.s. olympic trials all i am saying is that the people such as mania, grevers, cromwell and others have a very small, nearly non existant chance at making the team in a backstroke event. i would pretty much rule all of them out except for cromwell who just seems to get better by the day and who i believe has a lifetime best of 53.7 (correct me if im wrong) or somewhere around there and all of those other names are stuck at around 54.5 or higher as lifetime bests (except maybe for bal im not sure what his pb is). and i would find it very hard to believe that one of those guys such as mania, bal, or grevers is going to drop down to the 52.8 or so that it will probably take to make the team in the 100 back. don't get me wrong, im not saying that it is impossible im just saying that it would be highly unlikely and come as a huge surprise to me and probably would come as a surprise to nearly everyone in usa swimming.
so by saying that you are saying that only phelps, piersol, or lochte will make a backstroke event. so(excluding adam) your counting out david cromwell, randall bal, and matt grevers, who all have a legit shot in the 100. There is no doubt that it will just about take a world record to make the team, but to say that just because those guys are the fastest all time that they are a lock for the team. As bz said, all that matters is who touches first and second on that particular day, previous performances do not matter at olympic trials
what does matter is that the u.s. has the world record holder in the 100 back, the world record holder in the 200 back, and the second fastest all time in each of those events (and the top three all time in the 200 back)...and none of those people is named adam mania
mania is a great guy, and if he wants it more he will get it. No race/time matters in the past 4 years. The only thing that matters is who will touch the wall first and second in the qwest center in Omaha next month.
haha okay youre right i probably should have worded that differently considering that pretty much anything is possible at the u.s. olympic trials. What i meant to say was that mania's chances of making the team are close to zero considering how stacked u.s. backstroke is at the moment.
i just dont see why adam mania would post these videos of himself going very pedestrian times (compared to other guys his age who are swimming after college). because while 44.0 is EXTREMELY fast for a high schooler (hu you are the man)its just not very impressive at all compared to guys like crocker, grevers, phelps, lezak, etc. who can pop out 41's and 42's unrested consistently. and to swimmingjag: if you didnt happen to look at the scoreboard after the race second place was a 48.81 i believe. I have seen numerous 13-14s go times like that and faster. mania should be creaming them considering that he is a post collegiate swimmer attempting (key word there is attempting) to make the united states olympic team.
1st, there is no need to hate on adam mania.
2nd, i dont know of any high school juniors that can go a 44.04 and theres a handful of seniors that can. correct me if i am wrong.
3rd, go home
wow that time is really fast.......if he was a high school junior or senior. But for someone who is swimming post collegiately it really doesnt mean anything, mania has got to be on crack if he thinks he can actually make the 08 u.s. team in any event.
