As a former swimmer for Mr Shoulberg in the 70's and 80's I can honestly say his old school approach is the best approach there is. We took 20+ swimmers to '82 long course nats (on a team of about 60 swimmers) and not a single one of us had an injury caused by swimming. I tried to rehab two genetically bad knees for a year and eventually had reconstructive surgery. Without Shoulberg's old school approach both physically and mentally I would have never achieved All-American status for four years in breaststroke events in college.
The people who "burned out" never really wanted to be that good anyway and would have left the sport no matter where they swam.
Ask just about anyone who has ever swum at Germantown who inspired them the most in life and who their hero is and they will tell you Shoulberg.

Anyone know where I can get some of the straps that they use for the reverse pull-ups and knee-ups? we have a simliar set-up where we could use them at our pool. Thanks for any help.

how fast is this guy?

Simple, creative and finding a way to have no limitations - an very obvious reasons why Shoulberg is one of the best coaches of his generation.

Great stuff!

I love watching dryland videos. I wish my gym had vasa trainers.

Shoulberg is so old school. I can't decide whether that's good or bad. Does this kind of stuff just lead to burnout/injuries down the road? Or is it stuff that just makes you really mentally tough? Or both?

excellent dryland. great full body movements with core stability relevant to what's going on in the water.

His circus approach is successful! Why not learn from one of the best? Even the dog is not ruffled because he's seen it work!

calm calm. i'm sure that once the season and training gets more serious we will see more pool videos from garret. right now teams are still transitioning from more dryland and less pool time to more pool and less dryland. i have confidence that we are gonna see some pretty nasty sets in november and december.
Tizzoswmer posted October 29 at 4:21pm.
can we see more pool sets and not all dryland??????
Jimmy Morris posted October 29 at 4:04pm.
I love vasa trainers. Those were the only drylands I could really do, due to some ankle issues.
Omg Lolz posted October 29 at 1:05pm.
the vasa stuff reminds me of the total gym commercials with chuck norris.

super cool exercises, though.

I started using the rings/straps with my athletes this year and love it
Impressed posted October 29 at 8:44am.
Wow, these are some really great dryland ideas! I like how they use the vasa in so many different ways!
