Well now he will just go 58 in the 100m breast at beijing. No big deal
BH Rocks posted July 7 at 7:44pm.
He wont ever loose the 200 breast again. This was just one of those things. He is a great competitor and this won't be the last time he has a shot for the olympics in the 200

you little sob

this dude is the MAN
Torres posted July 5 at 9:05pm.
that's class right there...amazing!!! quite honestly he is the only one who can beat kitajima but the best of luck to Spann and Erick!
Eric Angle posted July 5 at 6:21pm.
I don't know what Kitajima's best was before his 2:07.51, but it was slower than Hansen's old WR of 2:08.50. So, HE dropped over a second in a short amount of time. Also, Spann was a 2:09.97, not a 2:11. Who knows if Kitajima will reproduce his WR? Sure, he could go faster, but maybe he won't. Shanteau and Spann beating Hansen in this race shows that this sort of upset CAN happen.

I think everyone here is aware of how hard the sport of swimming is, and that what all of these athletes are accomplishing is very special. But, huge time drops can happen for even the best swimmers. Phelps does this all the time, but there are other examples. Misty Hyman went a 2:09.27 (200 Fly) in the 2000 trials and went a 2:05.88 at the games.
Nobody Is Beating Kitijima posted July 5 at 7:00am.
Sorry you don't go from a 2:11 or 2:10 to a 2:07 in a few weeks. If swimming was easy every fatass in America would be jumping in a pool trying to be the next Michael Phelps.

Ya dig?
MAC posted July 4 at 4:09pm.
Class act man. Takes a lot to be so gracious only minutes after a race like that. Good luck in the 100 in beijing man!
Homesickle posted July 4 at 2:20pm.
hahaha "you little son of a "

hansen is one of the best people in the entire sport. not that phelps isnt, but i think that the sport would be a lot better off if guys like hansen, jones, crocker, peirsol, lochte, etc. got half of the publicity of phelps...
Eric Angle posted July 4 at 11:32am.
Al, he just said he HOPES they could beat Kitajima even though it is a LONG SHOT. Sure, not just anyone can beat a world recorder, but these guys (Shanteau and Spann) DID beat the former 200 WR holder and current 100 WR holder. Also, I don't think anyone thinks that hoping an American does well at the Olympics is disrespectful.
Wow posted July 4 at 11:28am.
apparently al isnt very open to some luck given to the 2 rightful people that beat him. wow al, you and jensen are both douchebags
Al posted July 4 at 11:19am.
yeah rite nc those two would never beat kitajima kousuke dont be so disrespectful to the olympics..not just anyone can go and beat the world record holder dumass.

if u think its so easy why dont u go to the olympics and do it yourself
Jason Huber posted July 4 at 10:04am.
Wow, what a class act!

I hope spann or shanteau can beat kitajima.
That is long shot but that would be awesome.
Colin posted July 4 at 9:25am.
Look at how he handles himself. He is a class act, even in defeat. In the comments under the Larsen Jensen video, people try to tell me that he didnt do anything wrong. Hansen carried himself a million times better in defeat than Jensen did in victory.
Mike Clayton posted July 4 at 9:20am.
The way he is acting in defeat, is what makes me wish he could still swim the 200 in China.
TX posted July 4 at 8:10am.
The best part about it is that you can tell he really means it. He wants them to do well now that he cant. Amazing guy.
Anonymous Coward posted July 4 at 7:58am.
He just gained so much more respect with me and he was already my hero
Anonymous Coward posted July 4 at 7:16am.
this is how every guy should be after a tough race like that. he has the most positive attitude
Becki posted July 4 at 6:04am.
When i looked at the omega timing this morning i didnt even look at the 200 breast i was sure it would be hansen and some other gut. I watched this and was like what ????
Aussie08 posted July 4 at 4:29am.
What a top bloke. To lose in such an important meet when he was considered by 99.9% of people as a shoe-in to make the team would be so heartbreaking. The way he carries himself through the interview despite the circumstances is why he is such a great role model for young swimmers.

Best of luck in the 100m in Beijing Brendan.
