I really don't appreciate this. I'm just repeating what Phelps said after the race (SC 400): "I don't want to do this again." I'd love to see that WR go to Phelps before Park gets it as much as anyone, but I can't see it.

Bowman told a Washington Post reporter that Michael won't be swimming the 100m freestyle (probably excepting the relay) because of the suit situation.

Hey Bob, Keep up the great work. We would love if you could come visit Grenada for 1 week to inspire our young swimmers to be as great an example like you taught Michael to be.

Lots of mystery as to what Phelps is going to swim... Personally I think he's done with the 200 fly.

no doubt he could break the record if he applied himself to it, but i dont think hes in good enough shape right now after taking all that time off, especially since hes been focusing on sprints. by 2012 its absolutely a possibility, but this record is no joke, its one of the fastest in the books
and Ian owns it as well........and "untouchable" that is what they said about the 200free

David, WR are made to be broken.

he also did that 400 free in a fastskin pro bodyskin, everybody knows that suit gets heavy and fills up with water at the end of a race, phelps is very capable of getting the world record in that event, especially when you consider how good he is in the 400 im and 200 free

David your not getting it. He looked tired in the 200free at 04 and now he owns it.

Can't see him doing the 400 Free after Santa Clara. Cavic will have the X-Glide, Munoz the Jaked, and those two will really challenge Phelps and also Andrew Lauterstein, who was 51.44 in LZR. Neither Leveaux nor Bousquet is swimming the 100 Fly this year.
nope, MP wants that WR trust ME

well lets say it this way: bernard set the record in the unapproved version of the x-glide. the x-glide "2.0" is now approved, but it wasn't what bernard was wearing

Ah, so the record isn't official because the suit wasn't approved at the time? But now that the suit is approved, shouldn't FINA let the record count? This is way too confusing, it would've been way easier to just ban the LZR than to reapprove all the crazy cheat suits.

to my understanding: a modified version of the x-glide is approved. and you're right A.C., Irie did race in a Descente, but it was the Descente Aquaforce Zero which was not approved. this means that bernards 100 free and irie's 200 back WR's will not be ratified: http://www.swimnews.com/News/view/6958

Check the fina list bro. X-glide is approved, and Irie set the record in a Descente, which is also approved.

X-Glide still isn't approved, and neither is the other Arena suit that Irie set the record in.

also, im predicting that phelps will take gold in the 100 fly in Rome, even with all the new suits being allowed. i'm pretty sure munoz was almost fully rested when he went that 50.46. while phelps has gone straight from a few months off swimming, weeks of altitude training, travelling to santa clara for a meet, then travelling to montreal for ANOTHER meet, he must be veeery unrested. to still go a 50.48 is unbelievable in my mind. also recall that he was the underdog in the 2004 and 2008 olympic games but somehow found a way to pull it off both times. gold-phelps, silver-munoz, bronze-cavic

I feel like phelps could destroy the 400 free world record if he trained for it, instead of the sprint events. his time is 1:42.9, he could be out in a 1:46 and even die and bring it home in a 1:52 and that would still be a WR by 2 seconds (its currently 3:40 by thorpe). i know its easy to write on paper, but phelps was in his own league in the 400 IM with his mid-d endurance, and with a WR-calibur freestyle, why cant he do the 400 free?

Y Give RL Ur A Gold In Ur 2im   June 22 at 8:56am
I think for certain with his new strength and power his BEST event IS the 200 IM comparitavely with the other top swimmers in the world. Remember that Rafael Munoz has already gone 50.46 (faster than Phelps's best time), Mike Cavic is going to show up big, along with Bousquet and Leveaux which both have been 22's in the 50 Fly, they will be fighting for every inch. Also, i think its going to take time for Phelps to get to where fred is now, or bernard, or sullivan are, could take years for him to become more accustomed to fast twitch events, and gain more strength.

I really hope he comes back to the 200 IM next year. Those words from Bob just gave Ryan Lochte a gold medal (if he comes in fresh (which he will), no problem winning).

I think (and Bob pretty much confirmed it) that he's definitely in the 100 Fly. That leaves the 100 and 200 Free, 100 Back, and 200 Fly as options. No 2 Back. I see him doing 3-4 individual events in Rome. He may swim the 50 Fly as well (it comes with the 100). The main reason he wouldn't is because its semis conflict with the 4x100, where we need him fresh.
