A world class swimmer in his day, Mike has established himself as one of the premier sprint coaches in the sport.
At the past 2 Olympics, his sprinters accounted for the top 2 spots in the 50 free (Hall and Ervin in 2000, and Hall and Draganja in 2004).
At the NCAA level Bottom played a role in the rise of Auburn as an assistant from 1991-1994. He then returned to his alma mater The University of Southern California in 1995, and by 1997 the USC women won their first ever NCAA championship. As the sprint coach at Cal, Mike's sprinters went through a stretch of 5 years of 100 yard free NCAA championships.
After a full year at The Race Club, Mike is now the head men's coach at The University of Michigan.
