We will see how all the suiting fares for Meechigen! My bet is they finish around 7 or 8 at the meet which counts.

I absolutley agree that to win Big 10s AND to finish in the top 5 is a worthy start for MB...from what I hear, some of the mich kids and one coach in partic are not as confident as you about the end of year? We shall see, humperdink. GO GATORS!!!

i must have missed the part of the interview or the comment below that said michigan was going to win the title... they'll win Big 10s for the second year in a row and finish top 5 in country... Not bad for a first year college head coach holmes

Our traditional concepts of rest, taper, in-season swims have to be modified to take into account the impact of the suits. In other words, we need to throw out past history in terms of fast in-season swims given the impact of suits on performance. Yes, the overall swimming is fast but less impressive when you consider the altered context that was created with the introduction of LZR early last year.
Having said all of this, Michigan is a top five contender but without better strength in breast will be hard pressed to truly be considered contender this year for a national championship. Florida is also a top five team but I have a hard time seeing them really in contention for the top spot given the relative strengths of other squads. Pretty hard to tell right now, whether the 4/5 spots will go MI/FL or FL/MI.

they are swimming great,no doubt..but I have seen swimmers before that came from a heavy yardage work'em program and moved to a less yardage prgressive more speed less yardage routine..its like taping their heads with a magic wand... time will tell to see if it lasts
I am not a mich basher, i think they have a great program and bottom is a great coach..I think the times that are popping are just the results of one time of program that the swimmers had in the past ..and then bottom. Its kind of like when your coach gives you more speed work at the end of a hih yardage kick ass aerobic cycle

Over two months to go to the BIG MEET, seems like a long time to hold this taper? I believe UF will finish in the top 3 at NCAAs. Texas, AZ and then whoever wants 4th and below

I'm pretty close to the Michigan Team, but since I'm unwilling to divulge I guess that makes me an annymous coward (who cant spell).

Last I spoke with Jon, he was feeling that they would swim very well this year, based upon great training the last couple of years with Bowman & Jon topped off by Bottom approach to speed. He was a little concerned about the long course summer and next year. He didn't think they were getting enough "work" in ( by Jon's definition).
Time will tell ...they sure as hell look good now.

In case you didn't see the interview, Bottom said they got after it this last week. You should be cautious questioning a coach who, based on his swimmers performances at trials and the Olympics, knows how to have his swimmers at their peak when it matters most

Congrats to Michigan for winning the DMNC. Look forward to NC's in college station where the Gators will do the chomp-chomp on you. We dont rest for dual meets and invites, like some other team might. You got us here, thanks for the motivation!

Not so sure about Michigan. I think they will be outclassed by the better teams at NCAAs. They are showing alot early. Not sure they will be able to sustain any momentum that far out. I think they will surprise many at NCAAs in that they might flop, big time.

You are doing a great job in Ann Arbor coach. People will soon realize that you are not "just a sprint coach."
Just remember don't go out jogging with Jon unless you are cleared first by your doctor.
