as long as an athlete does enough to do the most he can for his team, thats all you can ask. anything beyond that is his choice

This guy is making history...40.9!

I like how collegeswimming.com took their quotes directly from his interviews

Yeah...He loafed it and went 41.9, coming from behind to win his heat. That's so slow.

Jeez...get a life. All of us on this board wish we were anywhere close to as fast as him. By easing up a little on the last 25, knowing the relay would win the heat, that is not poor sportsmanship.

Zonafin, Backing down a little is still saving energy. What's the point of wasting even more energy when all the relay needed to do was win the consolation heat. It is not like the relay was going to break any records this year. The win was all they needed and Cesar provided Auburn with that win. What difference would it have made if Cesar had gone all out? All it would have done was confirm how great of an athlete he is, which in my opinion doesn't need any more confirmation. If he did go all out, wouldn%u2019t his split be saying the same thing, %u201Clook at me, I caught the guy and then some?%u201D Would it be classless because he would have dominated that guy even more? Honestly, why do you feel the need to try and take away from an amazing swimmer? Do you want him to stop breaking records too? Cesar is doing great things for college swimming and should be given more respect than this.

College swimming is a game. This isn't an issue of class or no class, it is an issue of people failing to acknowledge the game. Cesar is playing and playing well. He understands the game.
Drew Schneider posted March 28 at 10:37am.
no class the mans ending comments were all about unity and being together as a team no one with no class would participate in this......
Confused posted March 28 at 10:15am.
Please explain to me how that shows no class...that makes no sense to me
YO posted March 28 at 10:11am.
I was not there but if he really loafed that swim I am disgusted
Zonafin posted March 28 at 10:03am.
As if the last 4 yards is going to save alot of energy. It was just classless and him saying look at me, I caught the guy and then some. It was not needed. And I bet there are alot of people that watched that and thought the same thing.
18.47! posted March 28 at 7:06am.
How is that showing no class? He did what he had to do to win the race. There is nothing wrong with saving energy and still winning. The guy is amazing, get over it!
Zonafin posted March 28 at 1:35am.
Cesar's coasting in on the 400 med rly showed no class.
