Michael Phelps.... wow its an honor to even post a comment on such an inspirational person. You are my HERO!!! You are the most ah-mazing swimmer to ever grace this planet. Ohhh and im really sorry i forgot your birthday on June 30. Please forgive me. Oh and some people don't like you anymore because of the whole "pot" incident but i am NOT one of those people. Everyone makes mistakes and you are only human. My motto is forgive and forget and that is exactly what i have done. Please contact me back because it would mean the world to me! I have all your books, calenders, shirts, posters, and everything else. You might remember me because I wrote that essay about you and sent it to you. Oh and by the way, thanks so much for the autographed picture. I will cherish it forever!! I am NOT a stalker...,. I only want to be your good friend. And just in case you were wondering, I am also a swimmer. My swim team is the Chambersburg Chargers, and i must say we are pretty good. I guess im pretty good too! I won't get into detail, but if you ever want to see my times then i will send them tp you. I really hope to see you at the 2012 Olympic trials and the Olympic Games! My coach thinks i might make the trials that year. By the way, i am 13 right now. Oh and at the 2012 Olympics i have faith in you that you will get 9 gold medals! :)
Love,
Kylee Metz!!

Stroke   June 23 at 12:11am
uhh let's be real phelps is one of the fastest 100 M freestylers of all time I don't think that now all of a sudden he's a 400 swimmer who's becoming a 100 swimmer the dude was always better at the 100 anyway...if anything his new stroke has slowed him down he would normally kill a sprinter like targett, but only time will tell if his stroke works in the long run...

I dont think that a 'gallop' arm motion is neccisarily bad (look at Lezak), as long as you have a strong steady kick, tough to say if the new stroke is helping, or whether it is his raw man strength taking over. Either way, he seems to be becoming more of a sprinter, beating Targett, a sprinter specialist is a pretty big confidence booster. It must be intimidating to have some guy who's best event COULD be the 400 free, taking aim at more sprints now.

Sounded like they were... And no the time wasn't that SPECIAL but it was still a pretty good in-season time for Phelps. His "straight-arm" technique has changed DRAMATICALLY from what he did at the end of the 200 free at Charlotte. If you look closely though and really pay attention to his rhythm he still has a bit of a gallop in there! But I think he's definitely going to be something you wouldn't want to shake a stick at in the 100 free at WC's.

Nothing That Special Here...   June 22 at 12:08am
Phelps went 48.6 i mean thats nothing terribly special here. Obviously Garrett is making it sound very exciting, which is great, but the time wasnt really special.

Lets be honest though, Targett is a great sprinter, but Phelps smoked him on that wall

i bet if he had gone to the gallop on the last 25-30 meters he would have really surged ahead of target

Phelps actually showed fatigue at the end of that!

He pushed that first 50. I wouldn't say the 2nd 50 was straight arm like the first one. But what was unique was he showed no "gallop" in his stroke in that entire race, except maybe first stroke off turn.
Great in season time for him either way. Still about .3 off his 23.31 split at Beijing. Either this is a GREAT sign for his fly or his straight arm isn't working as well for him as his normal so far.
