- See Less -Michael Phelps
Michael has dominated his peers since he was twelve years old. In 2000 he was a surprise qualifier in the 200 butterfly who went on to final in that event. By 2003 he had surpassed Ian Thorpe as the world's best swimmer. Expectations for Phelps are so high that he was considered a disappointment when he "only" won a gold medal in six events at the 2004 Olympics.
In 2008 he achieved his goal of 8 gold medals in very impressive form setting 7 World Records in route to his 8 Olympic Championships. In between 2004 and 2008 Michael trained at Club Wolverine in Michigan, but after the Beijing Olympics he returned to his home club North Baltimore Aquatic Club.
he still had the passion to race. That was alot of fun.
I don't think Michael can break Ian's world record without a tech-suit. I don't consider it a "real" WR until he does it in an FSII. How's that for a challenge, Michael?

we were just watching the swim then. A novel idea I know!
Whats disturbing with Phelps he lacks the honesty
to give Ian his very due respect. Ian did that so long ago
I can't imagine what type suit that was in. Believe me I was there
when he did it, Ian's swim was epic!
The men & women I knew that were of Phelps' class were so focused on their own performance that other times were irrelevant. They could tell their own splits, stroke counts, etc. but, often, they had no idea about other's performances.
You'll note, however, I'm using the past tense in my comments: My direct experience with these sorts of athletes goes back a few decades. Maybe it's different now.
I love how El Duder insults Phelps' intelligence with stupider. If your going to insult the world greatest swimmer, at least do it right.

Next time I refer to you, or Phelps, I think I'll just use the word stoopider.
also for all the recognized records. Great day for
jaked and Arena,
The people who did the worst in this suit wars, was speedo
and tyr. This is true poetic justice, I absolutely love it.
This is either a blatant lie or Phelps is stupider than anyone originally thought.

heres the thing, if he's improving on sprint events like the 100 fly, what about the 200 fly? will he have energy to finish?
Maybe if he shaved that DIRTY stache he woulda broken the record, that thing looks like a dead ferret
Yes, please come back Ian, fancy suit or not. I don't care what you wear.
Swim the swim to end all swims and make this semi-senile old lady happy.
Go to Swimming Canada's website (http://www.swimming.ca) for results.
Michael probably just didn't care what the record was. He knew the things that he needed to know, which were everyone else's times in the race and his goal.
Has anyone ever seen Couglin or Peirsols parents. Geez
we've seen enough of that group.Oh G** Not Rome Too!
Way to come back!!! I am so proud of you Michael for facing the whole pot thing head on. It's like Alex Rodriguez saying yeah, I did it. Honorable! I hope to see you and your Mom in Rome..Keep going...
on a fancy suit!!! We need you bad!
what the world record was in this event! Come Mikey how
stupid do you think we are. You have that time tattooed to
that big brain of yours!!!!!!!!!!
munoz perez will go 49 oo wait no jaked so ill give him a 53.1 at worlds
I'm glad you brought that up. It definitely struck me as a bit disingenuous on MP's behalf. Heck, I know what that WR time is, and I'm practically senile. And I certainly haven't spent a quarter of my lifetime racing right next to the awesomest dude who owns that record.
That said, that was one badass swim!
It's like Alex Rodriguez saying yeah, I did it. Honorable!

by the way, where are the meet results for this meet?

Looks like he, Neil Walker, and former UT swimmer James Fike are making things happen in Austin. I will miss seeing Ian race though. That time he put up in '05 is crazy and that was with no LZR. If Mike starts wearing the full body then im sure he will break the record.

This is either a blatant lie or Phelps is stupider than anyone originally thought. Does anyone believe he honestly didn't know what the world record time was in an event he won 2 Olympic gold medals in? C'mon, ridiculous!
